Optimal Mental Health Alliance NPC (registration number 2026/162393/08), operating as OMHA, is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through optimalmha.org, how we use it, and the rights you have under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Who we are
OMHA is a registered non-profit company based in Morningside, KwaZulu-Natal. You can reach us at info@optimalmha.org or +27 71 131 3653.
Information we collect
We collect personal information when you interact with our site directly, not through passive tracking alone.
- Contact form: your name, email address, and the message you send us.
- Donations: if you donate online, PayFast processes your payment and shares your name, email, and donation amount with us — OMHA never sees or stores your card details. If you donate via EFT, we collect whatever details you include when emailing proof of payment to accounts@optimalmha.org.
- Newsletter signups: your email address, if you choose to subscribe.
- Cookies and analytics: our site uses cookies for core functionality and Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, time on site, general location). Google Analytics data is processed by Google in line with their own privacy policy.
How we use this information
We use your information to respond to enquiries, process and acknowledge donations, send newsletters to subscribers who’ve opted in, and improve the site based on aggregate usage patterns. We don’t sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
Who we share it with
We share information only where necessary to operate: PayFast for payment processing, our email service provider for newsletters, and our web hosting provider. Each of these handles your data under their own privacy terms, and we choose providers that take data protection seriously.
How long we keep it
We retain contact form and donation records for as long as needed for our accounting and legal obligations, generally up to five years, after which we delete or anonymise them.
Your rights under POPIA
You can ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, correct it if it’s wrong, delete it, or object to how we’re using it. To exercise any of these rights, email info@optimalmha.org. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Cookies
optimalmha.org uses cookies for essential site functionality and Google Analytics to help us understand how visitors use the site. You’ll see a cookie banner on your first visit, and you can manage cookie preferences at any time through your browser settings.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information against loss, misuse, or unauthorised access, including secure hosting and restricted access to donor records.
Children’s privacy
Our website isn’t directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 without parental consent.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top will always reflect the most recent version.
